About
Hi, my name is Emilie, I’m French and I’ve been living in Madrid since 2018.
The onedayinmadrid.com site is a translation of my original site for the French, which is called vivremadrid.com. Please excuse me if the translations are not 100% accurate.
When we arrived in Madrid in 2018 with our 2 children, aged 2 and 4 at the time, it was normally for 2 years initially. In the end, we never went back. We love this city so much, its gentle way of life, the mentality and the sunshine almost all year round.
We live in the west of Madrid and every week I go to the centre of Madrid to visit and discover new places. I love sharing them on my websites!
What will you find in one day in Madrid?
I share all my tips for visiting Madrid in French and English. Practical information to help you find what you’re looking for, including museums, getting around or finding accommodation.
I also like to share my favourite addresses by district, activities to do with the kids, or with girlfriends.
You’ll also find information about moving to Madrid. How schools work, how to get your papers, how to have your car inspected – in short, all the information you need when you arrive in a new city you don’t know!
The success of my website vivremadrid.com and the positive feedback I’ve had from my readers have made me want to share information in English too. So I took the plunge! I hope you’ll find everything you need here to prepare for your trip or expatriation to this wonderful capital.
Vivremadrid.com was a project launched with a dear friend Alice
The history of vivremadrid.com
Behind the Vivre Madrid website (vivremadrid.com) are two French expats living in Madrid: Emilie and Alice. We met shortly after moving to Madrid and knew straight away that we wanted to work together on a project that was close to our hearts.
After hours of scrambling to find the information we needed to move to Madrid, we decided that it was our turn to help future French speakers with their move to Madrid. But we didn’t stop there! We fell under the spell of the Spanish capital and the country. We wanted to share our discoveries.
So in January 2020 we decided to join the ‘Vivre à’ network, by creating our own Madrid edition: a website for Living in Madrid, Visiting Madrid and Travelling in Spain. Vivre Madrid was officially launched in June 2020. Today, we no longer belong to this network. We are independent.
Madrid and the surrounding region are our daily playground. We love wandering around the city in search of a good address, visiting the latest exhibition or wandering all over the region in search of a nice hike, a charming pueblo, lesser-known paths… Since we’ve been living in Spain, we’ve also been lucky enough to visit many regions with varied landscapes. With its mountains, deserts, miles of coastline, islands, historical heritage and traditions that are still very much alive, Spain is a country that you just can’t get enough of!
Every week, we share our discoveries, addresses, tips and practical information in our articles and on our social networks.
We hope you’ll find the answers you’re looking for in our stories and guides. These guides enable us, for example, to share our best addresses for getaways around Madrid, guided tours in French, or simply restaurant addresses that we recommend. Our aim is to help you make the most of your Madrid adventure and discover the country’s famous and lesser-known treasures.
Every day, we continue to develop our site with new ideas and projects!
Vivre Madrid is now THE reference media for French speakers 🙂
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all those who have followed and supported us since day 1, as well as all the new readers who have discovered us over the years. We hope you enjoy reading.
